Here is a vintage Lionel transformer from around 100 years ago!! It has been tested for voltage on all contacts, and it is performing as it should.

Important note about these early transformers, in case you did not know: These units allow you to set the voltage, and you hook up a rheostat (such as #81 or #95) to control the speed. This auction does not include a rheostat, but they are available all over Ebay.

Lionel produced this transformer in various versions from 1919-1928. I believe this one is from around 1921:

  • It has the nickel plate on the SIDE (vs. on the TOP)
  • The plate is nickle
  • It is 100 watts (vs. 75, 150 or 110)
  • It is 25 volts

These earlier transformers are great because there are SO many voltage combinations possible, all the way up to 25 volts, which you need to push your Standard Gauge and many larger O gauge. For contrast, many postwar transformers top out at 15-18 volts.

CONDITION: C-6 Very good. Tested and works on all contacts. Faceplate shows some scratches and general wear. Cord is a brand new replacement, 100% SAFE.The porcelain piece around the cord (where it goes into the box) has a chip. With a COPY of the original instructions. Pictures show it all!
