SCROLL ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM PAST THE POLICIES TO SEE 50-60 MORE PICTURES!!
You are bidding on an interesting American Flyer COMPLETE set from 1958, catalogued as the Sunshine Special. This one was among the first to have the display style box with the insert you see behind the engine. Also, this one came with the version of the 21831 that has "TEXAS AND PACIFIC" on the side instead of the more common American Flyer Lines.
This is A LOT of vintage train for the money, and an item you will be proud of. Or perhaps you have an American Flyer collector on your gift list. What an amazing moment when he or she opens a set straight out of the toy store in 1958!
Please take the time to read the whole description below before bidding. We took time in writing it for you. Look at all of the supersizable pictures and be sure to look at the pictures at the very bottom which wehave added, for a total of 48 shots of this set. We look forward to any questions-we answer all emails.
Here is a detailed breakdown of each item for your consideration:
THE SET BOX #20430:
The set box is complete and original. As you can see, it has wear from handling and use. Most wear is on the top with paper rubs, writing, and stains. There is some paper separation, especially along one corner. There is tape and tape residue. One side has the number partially obscured by tape residue. The insert is good. The display cardboard has some common handling wear but looks nice. There is a small tear on one side. There are marks here and there, but really, this is a nice box. There is a little bit of the usual softness to some of the corners and bottom edges of the cover. However, as far as these usually frail set boxes go, this one is good.
THE TEXAS AND PACIFIC 21831
C7+, PERHAPS C-8. I would put it at C-8 except for a THIN small unpainted line at the base of one of the roof fans--hard to see, but there. We have pictured it. The diesel carries the harder to find "Texas and Pacific" roadname on the side. The lettering is as strong as IK have ever seen on one of these engines--still strong. The engine is beautiful. The paint on the frame and handrails is still overall strong. It has been tested: it runs, cycles, lights, just as it should.
ALL OF THE ROLLING STOCK HAVE DIE CAST TRUCKS AND OPERATING KNUCKLE COUPLERS.
THE 24029 Bangor and Aroostook BAR boxcar
The car is a beauty. C-7+ except for a small rub/scratch above the B of Bangor on one side. Nice paint and printing. Strong paint. Deep blue. Has both door nobs. Metal door frames are clean.
THE 24209 Jersey Central Hopper
This car is nice. The printing is crisp. Some signs of handling in the paint. Missing one step. Die cast trucks, operating knuckle couplers. C-6+ (due to step)
24539 New Haven Flat Car with Pipes
With three pipes. Not sure if original or reproduction. Paint is nice with just a few areas of handling wear. Printing is mostly nice, but one side shows a little wear from handling, visible in close ups. The brakewheel is actually in place--a rarity for this one! Die cast trucks, metal stakes, operating knuckle couplers. C-6+
25049 Walking Brakeman
Denver Rio Grande Western Insulated Cookie
This car is one of the harder to find. It does show handling and playwear in the white, as pictured. It may clean up, but with the higher end items like this, I like to leave these things to the new owners. Printing does show some handling, but is still nice. Die cast trucks, operating knuckle couplers. C-6.
THE 24626 American Flyer "Radio Equipped" CABOOSE
One side looks C-8; I think someone may have cleaned it. The other side shows a little more handling wear, which may clean up as nice as the other side. Also small paint chip near one step. Roof has some light wear, may clean up. Still, one of the cleaner ones. All steps present. Die cast trucks, operating knuckle couplers. C-7-.
