You are looking at an interesting American Flyer COMPLETE set from 1958. This is THE Merchandiser set from 1959, one of THOSE SETS everyone wants because of the MoPac PAs and some of the rare freight cars in the set such as the Baker's Chocolate tank car. The BLUE on the PA's is consistent--sometimes the flash distorts it a little.
Here is a detailed breakdown of each item for your consideration:
THE 21922 MISSOURI PACIFIC PA POWERED
C6+. This diesel has been serviced, and it runs, reverses, and lights up. It looks nice. The nose decal is probably a reproduction but I do not know for sure. Everything else about this unit is excellent. There are a few specks in the roof. Most notably, on one side there are scratches in the blue over the P and A of Pacific and rear-ward. Otherwise looks fantastic.
We serviced it, and it runs well.
- Operating headlight
- Two power trucks
- Pull-Mor Power
- Reverse unit
THE 21922-1 MISSOURI PACIFIC PA Bell Ringer
C7. This one is really clean. The nose and front side decals 9the little ones on the cab) have been replaced in my opinion. They looks really good. I think someone put some kind of finish over the nose and cab sides to help cure the decals. This has resulted in a more glossy sheen to the nose. It still matches the color of the powered unit, and the rest of this unit is excellent plus to like new.
- Operating headlight
- Ringing bell
- Trucks silver-painted simulated six wheel style
All FREIGHT CARS have knuckle couplers. All boxes are original in various conditions.
The 24036 New Haven BOXCAR
The car is exceptionally clean. Painted version. Great printing. Has BOTH door nibs.
THE BOX is original. One end flap is loose and missing the tongue.
The 24077 Northern Pacific Pig Palace Stock Car
The car is a little dusty--will let you clean, but it is overall clean. Great printing. Has BOTH door nibs.
THE BOX is original. One end flap is missing the tongue; one flap is taped.
The 24213 Wabash Hopper
Has all four steps. It is a little dusty, but complete and nice. Nice printing.
THE BOX is an original white one with the factory end stamp. Has both endflaps.
The 24216 Union Pacific Hopper
Has all four steps. Nice printing.
THE BOX is a nice original. One flap is missing one of the inner side flaps.
The 24221 C&EI (Chicago & Eastern Illinois) Hopper
Painted version. Has three of the four steps. A few paint rubs on the top edge, visible. Otherwise, the gray paint on this one is really nice. Nice printing.
THE BOX is an original white one with the factory stamping. One end flap is detached.
THE 24323 BAKER'S CHOCOLATE TANK "Chemical" Car
One of the more desirable cars to find. This is the verison with the gray ends. The graphcs on the car are nice. Just the slightest bit of wear visible in some lettering if you strain. The white is overall nice, but you may want to gently dust or clean. The placards have been glued in plasce on the palstic frame, as most always are. The plastic frame is intact with all four steps. Clean! C7.
THE BOX is an original WHITE one with the factory stamping. I have not seen the Baker's tank in a white box before. Missing the unstamped ensd flap.
24633 SILVER DELUXE BAY WINDOW LIGHTED CABOOSE
This is the caboose everyone wants with that cool silver paint and the red printing. The car is a little dusty, and there is some green overspray on one of the four steps. I will leave that to you to clean or not. Complete and nice.
THE BOX looks nice, but has one loose flap.
THE SET BOX
Shows wear. Has some driness like most do. There is a tear on one of the four sides of the top, pictured. Some edge fray along the bottom edges of the top. Pictures show all sides.
There is no transformer or paper with this stunning set. The collector who had it often did not store the extras with the sets.
VERY TOUGH TO COME BY!
