This is the Lionel 41 U.S. Army Transportation Corps Switcher, offered in 1955 through 1957. It is a model of a gas turbine, also sometimes called a Vulcan Yard Switcher.
You are looking at a Lionel #41 Army switcher from 1955. And as you can see, though it is structurally very good, it has a few cosmetic issues. This one was just lightly serviced here and is running as it should.
These 2-4-2 switchers are something different to add to the layout.
It's compatible with Lionel, Atlas O, K-Line, Marx, Williams, and other three-rail O gauge cars.

CONDITION: Somewhere between C-6 and C-5+. Serviced, tested and running as it should. Item has some cosmetic issues such as some surface rust on rivets and metal railings, paint chips, scratches, and one window crack. Pictures show it all.
