You are looking at the best of both worlds. Run this one and keep the collectible original on the shelf.
This is a modern era handcar made from the old molds of the original postwar #65 handcar. It even still has "Lionel" in the casting on one side and "handcar". The Made in New York info has been blanked on the factory mold so it would not be too perfect of a copy!
First made in 1962, the #65 Handcar was a fun representation of railroad workers pumping their way down the tracks on an antiquated maintenance car. This car runs on its own--put it on the track, give it juice, and watch the guys work hard.
This is one of the most fun cars Lionel has ever released, and is sure to be a classic year round. In our shop, when we run mine, the kids go nuts! This is a self-motorized car that runs completely on its own. Run it on an elevated trestle set or on the same track as your other train (just catch it before it catches up!!).
Some features:
-
Yellow, just like the original postwar #65
-
0/027 scale for three rail
- Motorized--runs on its own
-
Railroad workers pump the gandy going up and down
-
Long Discontinued and sold out (since 2001)
