NOT SURE YOU WILL FIND THIS SET MUCH MORE COMPLETE AND CLEAN--JUST WOW. INTERESTING MULTIPLE SET NUMBERS ON BOX
Here is an interesting American Flyer COMPLETE set from 1959 in the original box. This is a clean set. It is one of those unique sets that your friends probably do not have. As a military set, it is highly collectible, but when you add the condition of the items and the odd numbering on the box...
Here is a detailed breakdown of each item for your consideration:
THE 20525 SET BOX
It is structurally all here. The outside of the box shows wear such as the usual age-darkening and some surface stains, dots, and two areas where the top layer of the box paper has been torn away. One of these areas is significant. On the underside, those two areas have been supported with standard box cardboard by the previous owner. There are a few pieces of tape, a few punctures. The exterior bottom side of the bottom shows dirt but is structurally good. Old moisture damage on one corner. The corners are all together.
If you look closely, lightly stamped on one edge is 88-3033.
It DOES have the interior insert which shows lots of wear, but is really cool with the names of the items and the set number. The interior tray has a little area broken away between the USMC boxcar and flatcar. It is supported by styrofoam inserts underneath to keep it structurally strong.
THE 234 C&O GP-9 locomotive
This diesel is complete and nice as you can see; I would call it a C8. We tested it, and it runs well. E-Unit works. The bell rings. The numbers and letters are good. There are a few paint rubs on the underside of the yellow die cast frame. The patina overall is amazing--strong and beautiful--as nice as we have seen. There is a hard to see scratch under the P on one side.
THE 24557 US Navy Flatcar with TWO Military Jeeps
The car is strong. All four steps. Strong printing. Great patina to paint. Does have some miniscule paint rub along edges. This is the two piece brakewheel version of the car. Jeeps are either amazing originals or professional repaints.
THE US Marines USM Action Boxcar
The car shows light wear, but is mostly really clean. The name and number are strong. Yellow is amazing. Some rubs in the yellow paint here and there, all visible. Catwalks are complete. Missing the brakewheel. There are some edge rubs in the paint on the catwalk.
THE USM 37 Rocket Flat
The car shows light wear, but is still amazing. The name and number are strong. The "O" in Rocket on one side shows some light wear. Wear on red of the rocket. Sharp yellow paint. CRISP.
245449 Erie Searchlight Car
Cosmetically full excellent, as you can see.
24631 American Flyer Lines Radio Equipped Caboose
Stunning, sharp. What else can I say? Crisp printing, deep paint. Hardly a spec--might see a spec or two on corners.
BUT wait, there's more...
The collector did not keep track and transformer in the sets as they weakened the boxes. I can provide track if you need it.
BUT there is still...
- Two action activators
- Button for Rocket Launcher (can't tell if it is an old repro or original)
- Button for Operating Car
- 690 Track Terminal
