You are looking at a PART for your classic steam engine from 1933-1939. This chassis for a steam engine fits the 385E and the 1835E. It is possible it fits others, but these are the ones I know it fits. These engines are 2-4-2 STANDARD GAUGE engines.
THIS unit is an original Lionel chassis from the 1930s. The steam chests have been painted silver (and may be repro--not sure). The frame is the original dark gunmetal gray.
CONDITION: As you can see, this one has been repainted in places such as the steam chests which are most likely replacements. There is some glue in two places as well as significant surface cracks on the ends although it is still structurally solid for now. You can see these in a close up in one of the last pictures. It has some ornamental parts on the front as well as the steam chests. Please look at the pictures.
I know the crazing is an issue, but maybe someone can use the part as a placeholder or for a shelf project. The steam chests and the ornamental pieces have some value. The steam chests alone often sell for $40.
