1955 New Chief Set VERSION
Good ones to RUN.
You gotta love the Santa Fe diesels.
You are looking at an interesting American Flyer ABA set from 1955. It was catalogued as 4713 as a unit, but each engine is numbered 470, 471 and 473.
These are the 1955 version of the classic Santa Fe Warbonnet Chief set. These have
- the metal ladders,
- B Unit with Diesel Roar,
- Diesel Roar on/off switch (with an extra label there for you)
- "Santa Fe" Nose Decals,
- Knuckle Couplers,
- Santa Fe cross decals,
- and "Built By Gilbert" on the rear sides
This set is fine to have on its own--you can put it with freight cars (5474 set), or you can make a passenger set with the unstriped 900 series streamlined passenger cars.
But if you want to be technical, the 1955 set came with the red-striped passenger cars in the 1955 set 5580H. So if you are building your own New Chief Passenger set, these are the units you need.
CONDITION: A NICE looking set. C-6. PAs are recently serviced and working as they should. Loco runs and reverses and lights; dummy A lights; B unit has the Diesel Roar, and it works as it should. The B unit has a labelled on/off switch for the diesel roar so that you can turn it off if you want to. Overall, there is decal wear, paint rubs, scratches, etc. The powered unit has a little visible glue at the cosmetic horns on the roof if you look real close. The dummy A has similar scratches and runs and more significant decal wear. The nose of the non-powered A has a think crack that goes straight up the nose. The B unit also has the runs and nicks, but looks and works great.
