Some History
Maersk, a multi-national corporation founded in 1904 and based in Copenhagen, is a world leader in shipping, oil and gas production, aviation and shipbuilding. With over 150 vessels worldwide, its shipping capabilities are extensive, and its tractor-trailers can be seen traversing the highways and byways of America each and every day.
The Santa Fe Railroad, whose unit trains hauled countless Maxi-Stack wells filled with Maersk containers, collaborated with Maersk to paint a diesel locomotive in Maersk colors for a one-day publicity photo shoot. The results were stunning! That event inspired Lionel's impressive Maersk set.
