You are looking at a STUNNING Lionel J-Class Northern, the Norfolk and Western streamlined steam engine and tender. This one was an instant classic. This is the iconic 746 from the postwar era.
INTERESTINGLY this one has a unique feature: the tender shell is an ORANGE BODY MOLD painted black. I am not sure I have seen that before.
This one is the short stripe on the tender. You can can feel the letters feel heat stamped (some more than others). On the locomotive, the "746" is stamped in the middle of the striping.

CONDITION: C-7. Everything looks excellent here. Engine tested and runs and smokes. You can see some paint chips here and there in both the black and the striping. The railing may be reproduction--I am not sure.
TENDER has been serviced, rewired, and whistles. Tender shell is black painted over an orange mold. All steps on tender. Tender has a small phillips screw (same size as the mounting screws) on the back of the coal pile. I do not know why. Orange body mold as you can clearly see. 746W is heat stamped on the numberboard.
BOX is nice structurally showing usual shelfwear with some handling. Box is nice structurally showing usual shelfwear with some creases, wear, dirt and handling. Some dust on one side made it in to pics (I did not see in real life). All of the inner flaps are there, but one of the small ones is precariously hanging on. Pencil writing on box. There is no box for the tender in this lot.
