You are looking at a STUNNING diecast Lionel Hudson passenger set, the Chicago and Alton steam engine and tender. This unit released in 1981 is a fantastic version of the 4-6-4 in a roadname never produced in the postwar era.
This is an updated version of the classic Hudsons, except this one has electronic sound of steam and electronic horn.
Note that Electronic SOS is a chuff-simulator using the "dead air" snow sound regularly interrupted as the speed increases or decreases. Pretty clever. Horn is electronic. It is from 1981, so these sounds are not what you hear in the more recent digital trains.
PLUS this listing includes the SIX Heavyweight cars Lionel released to go along with it--the original five and the uncatalogued add on diner released five years later. These are the "junior" heavyweights the same size as the current popular Polar Express style heavyweight passenger cars.

CONDITION: Overall C-7+. Engine tested and runs, lights, smokes, whistles. Note that the sounds from 1981 are electronic and not digital. They work. If you look super up close, you can see some oxidation on the handrail. Roller does show a little runtime, so we know it has been on the rails. Cars all light up. Engine and tender have a few minor rubs and paint chips, some minor oxidation on rails. The six passenger cars all look great with a strong patina--strong C-8. One car has one of the tiny detail end rungs missing.
Boxes show usual shelfwear with some creases, wear and handling. Some aging.
