This is a MODERN LIONEL run of the prewar original 700e wheel. THIS wheel is a CENTER wheel on the motor without a flange. It has the metal tire around it. It has the crank shaft as you can see.
We obtained it in a small collection from a closed down Lionel service station many years ago. It is a hard to find part.
It has the protrusion for the linkage/siderods, etc. The axle whole is approximately 1/4". There is no tire. The whole wheel measures 1 5/8" across.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There are currently no wheels being produced that fit the 700e or 763. It turns out these newer wheels, though they are from the original molds for the 700e and 763e, have wider axle holes. On their modern era runs of the 700e and 763, Lionel used these wheels with axles for the 773, so the holes are slightly larger. Some enterprising folks have used these wheels with the 700e and 763, but they have to use the axles for the 773 and change out the bearings.
It seems to be from the same casting that ORIGINALLY had 700e-8 cast into the wheel, but the actual number for it was 700e-140. Of course, this number DOES NOT appear on this wheel.
CONDITION: New old stock from a service station, and were newly purchased by the service station in the 1980's I believe. Does not appear to have been used though may may show some normal oxidation.
This is surely something you do not see very often. Do not let it get away.
