You are looking at a vintage Lionel O gauge train. This O gauge three rail electric 0-4-0 engine is from BEFORE World War 2. This number was produced 1917-1927, but I think this one dates to 1918. It is a model of the New York Central S type electric.
Lionel made this engine in different colors and combos. THIS one is the desirable
- dark olive green version
- with the Y-shaped stanchions
- with the stamped nickel handrails,
- stamped lettering
- and red window frames
This engine came in three basic styles. The first was a shorter body with no handrails. The next earlier version had a longer body and these Y SHAPED shanchions where the nickel handrails kind of protrude from the body. The last version, by far the most common, has shorter brass handrails more tight to the body, especially on the hoods.
As you can see, this one is the earlier version with the Y Shaped stanchions.
As you can see, this one is the earlier version with the Y Shaped stanchions.
