Here is an original lot of very early wind up (aka clockwork) two rail track from sometime in the first two decades of the 1900s.
Based on the TIE identification from a toy train track reference, this lot was produced by Edmund Merkel, a precursor of sorts to the earliest prewar American Flyer. It is easily identified by the four rectangular spacings in the ties, one on each side of the rail.
While two collectors believe it to be Merkel, we have heard from another collector who believes it to be very early American Flyer wind up track based on the 8 track oval among other identifiers. You be the judge.
Not often found, much less identified!
