You are looking at an interesting American Flyer COMPLETE set from 1954.
This is one of those sets that has the WOW factor. Who doesn't ooh and ahh over streamlined passenger set toy trains from 1954? If you are a toy collector or an American Flyer collector, this is one of those sets you really need to have.
ALL items come in era-appropriate reproduction individual boxes.
Here is a detailed breakdown of each item for your consideration:
THE FLASH 477 PA POWERED UNIT
The PA is the powered unit. We serviced it, tested it, and it ran smoothly. E-unit cycles. There are some very minor edge rubs. . There is a small dot by the driver's side window on the nose--either a factory paint drop or a factory mold dot. The decals are all great, and the sides are nice--this is rare with this unit. The nose decal is the best I have seen. Check out the nose decal. The number stamping is a hair light, but it usually was on these units.
THE 478 DUMMY B UNIT PB
With air chime whistle, tested and working. Is very clean. If you hold it under a lamp, you can see a few light scratches in the roof. Decals are great. There is one thin hard to see small scratch on the decal on one side. Stamping is uniformly just a hair light, as it came from the factory. Not sure you can find this unit any cleaner.
ALL OF THE PASSENGER CARS HAVE DIE CAST TRUCKS AND OPERATING KNUCKLE COUPLERS. THEY ARE ALL Satin Silver PLASTIC SHELLS WITH THE FLUTING AS WELL AS STAMPED AMERICAN FLYER LINES AND RIVETED NAMEBOARDS
THE BOTTOMS OF THESE CARS ARE ALL VERY CLEAN
These cars are about as clean as I think you will ever find--they are not perfect, but pretty close!
THE 960 COLUMBUS STREAMLINED COMBINE
Is overall nice. Crisp printing, strong stripe. Some light signs of playwear in the silver. To the right of the wide door on one side, there is a touch up in the brown stripe--not sure if it is factory or after, but not easy to see. There are two tiny drops on top of the chestnut stripe on the other side, towards the end by the small door. Some wear from handling especially on the roof.
THE 961 JEFFERSON COACH
This car is CLEAN. Crisp printing, strong stripe. Some light signs of playwear in the silver probably just from fingers. Hard to find a flaw.
THE 963 WASHINGTON OBSERVATION
The car is very nice. Crisp printing, strong stripe. There is a scratch in the brown towards the end on one side. Very clean roof--might be cleanest I have seen on an observation car. Very nice metal rail on roof. Wow.
