A very hard to find Standard Gauge GG-1
Even harder with SOUND
In the 1970s, John Daniels made a few standard gauge items that had not yet been produced. He was not looking to make scale models--simple classic designs from O but now in Standard Gauge!
He made a Hiawatha set, this GG-1 some heavyweight passenger cars, and a few other items all based on the old O gauge designs.
This unit is one of 400 total produced, but if you go by color, could be one of about 150. More of the Brunswick Green versions were made than the Tuscan. As you can see, they were just as stubby as the O gauge model.
This unit has some sort of early diesel railsounds--not sure if it is Lionel or some other company. To the best of my knowledge, the sound was not part of the common run. The engine has a horn that can blow when you push the sound button on your transformer, and it has a bell although the bell was somewhat inconsistent for us in testing. It does take a lot of juice to run.
It has a toggle switch underneath the engine (easy to flip while it is on the track) that locks in the direction to either forward, neutral, or reverse.

Couplers may need to be bent a little back in place or replaced--your call. In the pictures, one roller assembly is bent, but this was fixed after the pictures. Has a toggle switch for direction control. The bell was somewhat inconsistent for us in testing, but may have been the transformer. No box, if there ever was one.
