You are looking at one of the "upgrade transformers" in the postwar era--this is the 1034, a 75 watt transformer that comes with direction control. It was a big step up from the 25-45 watt transformers that came with many sets. This one was made available 1948-54. This one has red and blue printing on the faceplate which gives it a more unique look than most other transformers.
This is a fine transformer to use with any postwar set whether Marx, Lionel, even American Flyer. And those black and orange handles really take you back!
