When you see the 402 for sale. you usually see the Mojave color version. THIS ONE is the SCARCE Dark Green version.
Here is a classic electric engine from 1923-27. This is one of those engines that graces the cover of the price guides or magazines. The #402 Standard Gauge electric engine is DUAL MOTORED. Each truck is motorized.
There are a few variations of this locomotive. THIS ONE is:
- Dark Green paint
- Mostly Nickel trim
- Brass piping
- Nickle "Eagles" journal / springs on base
FEATURES:
- Dual Motors
- New York Central
- Lights (both light up--this unit did not have directional lighting)
- Reverse lever for manual forward or reverse operation
- NYC S-Prototype
- 17 1/2" long
THIS unit is an original Lionel unit from the 1920s with perhaps a few cosmetic parts replaced and likely professionally repainted. Motors serviced and rewired where necessary. You are ready to go.
CONDITION: C-6. Serviced. Runs well. Reverse unit works.
The unit looks good, but it does have some rust, rubs, small dents on roof, missing the latch on one coupler, one journal box is darker than others.
Hard to tell for sure, but the dark green paint is most likely a very skilled repaint from some years ago. There are some scratches and nicks which show a little oxidation suggesting that if it is a repaint, it was done a while ago. The brass plates all seem original and show wear.
With the old TCA Indenti-tag. One end seam sometimes slightly separates as you can see in the pictures--will let new owner decide how to secure. Most cosmetic and trim parts appear original, but there are some that may be modern reproduction. Overall, cosmetically C-6+ or better.
