You are looking at a classic electric engine from 1927-36, one of the Lionel icons, widely considered one of the greatest engines Lionel ever made. This is one of those engines that graces the cover of the price guides or magazines. The #408E Standard Gauge electric engine is DUAL MOTORED with SUPER MOTORS. Each truck is motorized.
This one is the APPLE GREEN version, and appears all original except for the light bulbs! Even the wheels, which are in great shape, appear original. The non-geared wheels of each axle are marked for Lionel Corporation New York. Even all of the trim appears to be original on this one.

CONDITION: C-6+.Tested and runs, lights and reverses. Paint shows wear, chips, rubs, scratches, and geeneral wear. Appears all original including the wheels. Non-geared wheels have the Lionel Corporation New York on them. Brass plates, grills, and roof details such as pantographs all appear original and show some wear and oxidation. Brass door, etc do show some oxidation and a stray mark. Base has some surface oxidation and rust near the flag stanchions. Much of the brass rail shows oxidation and wear. Pantographs are original and show wear. Each pantograph has had solder on one junction; one pantograph has separated and needs to be resoldered. Both pantographs do stand and also snap shut. Original motors.
