Here is a super Lionel Classics release from way back in 1991--that's right, 35 years ago! Before there was Tinplate Traditions or Lionel Corporation Tinplate...there was LIONEL CLASSICS.
This one is the best of both worlds--the exact look of the classic Lionel prewar with the brand new parts and shine of a new item.
It is a remake of the old classic Lionel #85 of the prewar era, circa 1910. The #85 may have been the very first slot car set ever made!
The Racing Automobiles set features
- Two cars, #8 and #9
- Two sets of drivers,
- A loop of wider outer loop track
- A loop of tighter radius track
- The start/ finish line sign and poles
It sets up as two loops of track, one inside the other, and the start/finish banner across the tracks. You power it with a transformer providing 12-17 volts--I recommend an AC power supply although some reports say a DC will work too. I prefer the AC power for this. We have made a video of the outer loop set up and running for you.

CONDITION: Tested and works. One car has been run but looks like new. The other appears to be new or like new +. Both sets of tracks (the inner loop and outer loop) have been used and have significant dings on the outer edges (do not affect performance), scratches on the track, and some crazing in the green. The accessories like the finish line, etc. appear new. At time of listing, missing one of the track screws, but they are a very common size, and track still connects just fine.
BOX is P-6+ with light creasing and a taped rip on the front top right.
