How often do you find this rare set with the ORIGINAL OUTFIT BOX??? I am not sure you will find it more complete and nicer.
WE HAVE TONS OF PICTURES.
You are looking at a desirable "8976" Lionel locomotive and tender set offered from 1939-42. This is the iconic Pennsylvania 0-6-0 bell ringing switcher in fantastic shape. It was catalogued as 227 and 227B.
NOTE that while we often service items prior to listing, when we get a collector item this scarce, we like to leave any servicing to the new owner as we have had collectors in the past tell us they prefer it. If you need the engine serviced, marker lights put on, and wires replaced, let us know. However, many collectors prefer to either leave original, do themselves, or have their own "guy" do it. We respect that!
AND it comes in the original boxes with some inserts as well as the outer outfit box! WOW. Check out the pics below (and then all the way down) to see every angle.

CONDITION: C-6+. Tested and runs. Reverse works. You can see the scratches in the paint, especially on the very front. This is the gunmetal gray painted version with the gunmetal gray on the front. The top part with the stacks is unbroken--usually, this is not the case, so this is a bonus.
CONDITION: Overall C-6+ maybe C-7. Quite clean. Running and lighting and ringing bell. Loco: if you look closely, one front step slightly bent; grab rail broken on side; some light oxidation. Missing some jewels on loco front sides. Tender: wires frayed and missing one connector pin on end, lettering a little faded in places, but better than most that I have seen. Both loco and tender tested and work.
BOXES: really nice with some light signs of shelfwear. Pictures show it all.
