An Interesting one year only variation

Hubba Hubba. You are looking at a neat Lionel item--this is a prewar Lionel number 817 peacock green and dark green caboose.   While the 817 was made 1926-1942, this particular version was only made in 1932. So whether you are adding to the collection or you specifically need the 1931 version of the caboose to finish a set, you better grab this one while you see it.

Lionel made this caboose in multiple variations: colors, color combos, trim, journal boxes, etc. This one is known as variation C from 1932:

  • Peacock color (as opposed to red)
  • Dark Green roof
  • Brass window inserts (vs. orange)
  • Copper journals (vs. brass or nickel)
  • Brass plates (vs. stamping)
  • Black serif lettering (vs. sans serif)
  • No maintenance label on bottom
  • Latch couplers

Back in those days, Lionel made two different sizes in O: one more aligned with traditional 027, and one that was quite a bit larger. The 800 series is the larger O.

CONDITION: C-6. Oxidation on truck tops and sides. Rust on couplers and trucks. There are paint chips and scratches around the exterior on all sides. One side has yellow splotches of discoloration.
