Hubba Hubba. You are looking at a neat Lionel item--this is a prewar Lionel number 817 peacock green caboose with green cupola and red roof. This caboose started life as an ORIGINAL 817 caboose made 1926-29. While the 817 was made 1926-1942, this particular version was only made in 1926-29. Back in those days, Lionel made two different sizes in O: one more aligned with traditional 027, and one that was quite a bit larger. The 800 series is the larger O.
At some point in its life, someone did a splendid restoration. It looks fantastic. The only thing left (if you even feel like you want it) is the window inserts--which came in a few different color options.
This one has an interesting combination: Nickel journal boxes, brass plates, brass platform ends...
There are a few different versions of this caboose, mainly in paint combos (red.green, green/red, green/green...).
THIS ONE:
-
Peacock green and red scheme
-
Brass plates and platforms
- Nickel journal boxes
- Latch couplers
CONDITION: Somewhere between C7 and C8. Super clean. This is a very nice restoration! There are a few speck sized nicks and scratches in a few places--pictures show all sides, so look closely. Among the cleaner of these that I have seen. No windows inserts, so if you prefer a color, you can insert.
