Only one collector can have the original THE BRUTE and the Show Room passenger state cars. But now you can have the set complete with the upgraded ability to enjoy Protosounds and run it conventional or with MTH DCS. 

The Story
You know the story--Lionel had the Brute built in Italy around 1927 when everyone was obsessing over Milwaukee Road's impressive articulated Bi-Polar engines. The BRUTE was an early draft of the now famous 381E. But it was actually a FOOT longer than the 381 and so bog, it was clearly not going to be a toy many kids could handle. Plus, it was supposed to run on track that was over 3" wide, so there would be a whole new track to produce and market. The green-painted engine was eventually just displayed in the NYC Show Room with the passenger cars until one year a collector purchased it.  He had The Brute plated to help it last. Since then, it has changed hands among collectors.

But we want to be very critical for you--be as nit-picky as we can. So we went around it with a magnifying glass to show you every sign of use we could find--most of which is not noticeable unless you are right up on it and looking for it. Some may clean up--your call. And then we took over 100 pictures (Keep scrolling to the very very bottom to see them). And then we wrote a detailed description. Read on. Detailed Conditions:

Brute Engine #381SS: New battery installed. Tested in both conventional and DCS for you. Works great. Has rubs from handling and one area with a fingerprint type smudge. Other rubs. Some of the ornate "eagle" shaped truck journal sides show oxidation and different shades than others. Scratches where it articulates from use. All pictured below.

#1925 San Francisco Passenger car: Signs of use, rubs, some wear. All pictured.
#1900 New York: Has a fingerprint, some rubs, and some oxidation. There is some kind of transparent linear splatter on the roof if you look for it. Some wear on numberboard. Brass rails show a little oxidation. Roof vents show some wear. Mark on one nameplate.

#1924 Chicago: Some rubs, One door has oxidation half way down. Some rubs. Some light roof wear. Looks fantastic. Deck area looks amazing.

BOXES

ENGINE BOX is P-6 due to a few creases and a linear puncture along one edge. The original shipping "cage" is here, and the engine will ship in its cage inside the box and inside the shipping box.
PASSENGER CAR BOXES are P-7 with some creases and rubs, dents. The San Francisco box has a uniformly lighter shade in one section--not sure if it is sun/flourescent fade or if it is factory.
The SHIPPER BOXES are shippers--they have the labels, and they are somewhat softer than they once were, but they are complete and here with just a few punctures, etc.
