This small cardboard box was an original accessory package included with the Noma Electronic Announcing Railroad Station (also called the "Noma Talking Station" or "Announcing Railroad Station"). This was popular with Marx, Lionel and American Flyer train owners back in the 1950s–1960s.
Noma Electric Corporation (better known as Noma Lites or Noma Lights, a major maker of Christmas lights and holiday products) produced this battery-powered passenger station accessory primarily for O-gauge toy trains, compatible with brands like Lionel and American Flyer. The station featured a built-in sound mechanism: a simple mechanical turntable inside that played train announcements via a record when activated, usually by a button or train-triggered switch.
This box contained
- Two size D batteries — These powered the announcing unit (the sound/record mechanism). The box provides detailed installation instructions, including a diagram on one side showing how to mount the batteries in the station's base (note the "butterfly nut and clamp" removal, opposite-pointing battery tops, and caution about removing batteries for long-term storage to prevent leakage/corrosion).
- Four extra blank station signs — These were customizable cardboard or plastic inserts for the station's sign holders (often on the roof or platform). The instructions encourage users to write in the name of their local town or a fictional place ("Name the station for the place in which you live"), personalizing the setup like a real railroad depot.
CONDITION: C-7 to C-8. The box is in good shape as you can see with two very small tears. Be sure to scroll down into the listing past the description and enlarge the pictures.
